TAMLYN WRIGHT
PRODUCTION DESIGNER & CREATIVE PRODUCER
IF/THEN Series

Tamlyn Wright designs and creates set for live events. Did you know you need expertise in technology and engineering to do this work? Wright’s combines artistry with the latest in engineering and digital technology to design stages for touring artists and productions. She bring exciting and dynamic shows and events to arenas and stadiums around the world, which audiences watch in person, broadcast, streamed, or even through augmented reality!

Stages not only have to look amazing but also must be structurally sound. Sets are often are built and removed relatively quickly and must they hold musicians, dancers, heavy equipment, and more.

Wright works with some of the biggest stars - she won awards for production design for both Taylor Swift and Selena Gomez!

Wright went to graduate school for set design and was one of very few women admitted in the 90's. She learned many of the industry technical skills - such as drafting, construction, and engineering - as a young girl from her grandfather who was an aerospace designer and taught her to seek non-traditional roles in life. Today Wright says there are a “vast number of women not only making great careers but also coming to the forefront and leading the industry by making equitable changes to the marketplace.”

Wright says “Try your hand at everything that is within your reach, whether it be athletic or academic or artistic. Finding your talents within pairings of your studies and recreational activities are what make you special, and later as an adult give texture to your life in and out of your eventual career.”

Educational Pathway: Wright studied theater and geology in undergraduate school. She did her graduate work in set design.
