Sophie Okolo uses the written word to inform readers about inclusion and representation in STEM, the effects of health technology on our well-being and mental health, issues about aging, and anything science! Ms. Okolo is the Founder and Director of Global Health Aging. Global Health Aging is a publication site dedicated to bringing the latest news on longevity and healthy aging from around the world—from the integration of alternative medicine with geriatric care in Australia to Hong Kong’s plans for its aging population.
Ms. Okolo was recently honored as a TEDMED 2020 Research Scholar. She is passionate about diversity and inclusion in STEM, and she worked with Wonder Woman Tech to empower young women.

Short STEM Star Interview
Q: What was your favorite subject in K-12?
A: Chemistry.
Q: Did you have a favorite teacher growing up?
A: Not sure! But, I'm grateful to ALL of them.
Q: Who inspired you growing up?
A: My mother. She encouraged my fascination with science!
Q: Do you have the opportunity to spend time with young students? What is your role with them?
A: In my free time, I participate in STEM-related activities for kids. It's important to give back and help prepare the next generation of STEMists!
Q: Do you have pets or a favorite animal?
A: Horses are my favorite animals! They are long-legged, majestic creatures.
Q: What is your favorite non-work activity?
A: I like curling up with a good book!
Q: What is the weather like where you live? Is there anything interesting about it?
A: It's winter! There's no snow yet, and some days are a bit warm. [This question was answered in January.]
Q: Did you have a favorite game as a child?
A: Prince of Persia.
