This lesson is a presentation with discussion questions addressing NGSS standard 3-LS4-3 Construct an argument with evidence that in a particular habitat some organisms can survive well, some survive less well, and some cannot survive at all. This lesson posits questions about how well certain traits would help an animal in a different environment. For instance, would a walrus’ blubber help or hurt it in a warm environment? It also has two real life example of a time animals were brought to new habitats and survived.

It also address NGSS crosscutting concepts: Patterns and Structure and Function

The lesson can be used to supplement virtually all NGSS standards regarding animals in grades 1-4.
