HEATHER MAXWELL CHANDLER
VIDEO GAME PRODUCER
IF/THEN Series
Heather Chandler makes video games! As a game producer for the past 23 years, she’s collaborated with engineers, artists, and designers to create games on every platform imaginable. She’s contributed to over 40 games—like the incredibly popular Fortnite, and titles like Never Alone and Interstate 76.
In school Chandler had a passion for math, science, and art and wanted a career that combined these. Regarding her career, she says: “Making games wasn’t something I considered; I thought you had to be a programmer. During my first job at Activision, I learned that there are many ways to contribute to a video game. The key is working with a group of passionate people who together have the necessary skills to create an amazing interactive experience. Video games are the ideal blend of technology, creativity, and people.”
Chandler and her husband also created Whole Brain Escape in North Carolina, an immersive video game-like experience in real life!
Educational Pathway: Chandler studied Art History in college and filmmaking in graduate school. She started at an entry level job at a video game company which is where she learned to make games.
