Dr. Bohon says, “I study earthquakes; where they happen, why they happen and when they happen. I also work to improve the way we communicate about earthquakes and the risk they pose to people and our cities.”
Earthquakes occur without warning and can cause a lot of damage. Dr. Bohon not only studies and researches earthquakes themselves, but she looks to inform communities in earthquake-prone regions about ways they can keep themselves safe.
Dr. Bohon wants you to know this: “I'm more than just a scientist. I'm a woman, a mother, a daughter and a sister. I'm an actress and a chef and an educator. All of these parts of me are important, and they help me to be a better scientist.”
Educational Pathway: Dr. Bohon studied theater and geology in college and then moved to Hollywood to become an actress. After several years of acting in LA, she experienced an earthquake and decided she would rather be a geologist. Dr. Bohon went back to school and got a masters degree and a PhD in earthquake geology.
Name Pronunciation: You can hear the correct pronounciation of Dr. Bohon’s name at the beginning of her AAAS If/Then Personal Statement.
