DR. TEMPLE GRANDIN
PROFESSOR OF ANIMAL SCIENCE
Dr. Temple Grandin is a prolific writer, autism rights activist, and an advocate for the humane treatment of animals. She has created new designs to reduce stress for animals raised for humans to eat. Dr. Grandin has said, “I think using animals for food is an ethical thing to do, but we've got to do it right. We've got to give those animals a decent life, and we've got to give them a painless death. We owe the animals respect.”
As an activist, Dr. Grandin is an activist for people with autism and is herself autistic.She promotes the importance of supporting and including children on the autism spectrum. As she puts it in her TED Talk, “the world needs all kinds of minds.” She invented the “hug box”, or the squeeze machine, designed to alleviate stress for those on the autism spectrum.
She is a Professor of Animal Science at Colorado State University.
