Dr. Sherilyn Williams-Stroud is a musician turned headphone-wearing geologist! Geologists study the Earth and its physical structures.
Dr. Williams-Stroud works for the Illinois State Geological Survey, where she leads a research team on carbon capture and sequestration. Williams-Stroud’s team is helping to find places deep inside the Earth where we could store millions of tons of carbon dioxide. Her team turns carbon dioxide gas into liquid. This liquid carbon dioxide is injected into the ground. To date, they have already injected over three million tons.
Dr. Williams-Stroud’s work takes her from her computer desk to field locations where she collects samples of the Earth. Her favorite place to explore geology in the United States is the Grand Canyon. She spent time in a dance trope that performed traditional West African Dance with live drummers and plays the French horn!
Dr. Sherilyn Williams-Stroud’s card was developed in collaboration with STEM Superheroes, LLC.
