DR. SCOTT FULBRIGHT
CO-FOUNDER & BIOLOGIST
Dr. Scott Fulbright cofounded Living Ink. He has a PhD in molecular biology and has used his expertise to create ink that is made from algae. “Regular” ink is not good for the environment, so Dr. Fulbright, alongside his cofounder Steve Albers, created a more sustainable and environmentally-friendly ink!
Many renewable ink fade and had trouble making a true black. But Living Ink makes a jet black ink where the color stays strong. They’ve partnered with Patagonia and other brands.

Short STEM Star Interview
Q: What was your favorite subject in K-5 or K-12?
A: Biology
Q: Did you have a favorite teacher growing up? Why were they your favorite?
A: Richard Hill - He taught marine biology and made it so interesting. You could feel the passion oozing out of him. His teaching demonstrated how powerful and amazing nature actually is such as animal migration, ocean tides and other animal behavior.
Q: Who inspired your growing up? Why?A: My grandpa was an engineer, but a crazy engineer. When I visited him he always had odd looking boats that he had built. He would think outside the box and try very different designs. He never cared what other people thought and I always looked up to him for that. He inspired me because he did things differently, which even as a kid, I saw this is a great trait to have.
Q: What is your favorite non-work activity, hobby or way to relax?A: I like playing basketball and soccer. However, if I could do anything it would be swimming in the ocean.
