DR. ROCÍO PAOLA CABALLERO-GILL
GEOLOGIST
As a geologist, Dr. Rocío Caballero-Gill evaluates the ocean from many scientific perspectives—like biology, chemistry, and physics! She focuses on microorganisms, dead and buried in ocean mud. Sometimes those are phytoplankton and sometimes zooplankton—which are super tiny plants and animals that, at present, inhabit ocean water! She uses the data she collects to form conclusions about past climate change.
Dr. Caballero-Gill co-founded GeoLatinas to support Latina women interested in the Earth Sciences. She says: “The main goal of this organization is to empower and inspire Latinas in Earth and Planetary Sciences, but we welcome everyone who wants to be part of our community and work together towards our goals.”
