DR. GENTRY PATRICK
NEUROBIOLOGIST
Dr. Gentry Patrick is a professor of neurobiology at University of California, San Diego (UCSD). This means he studies the brain and the cells it contains! He leads a research team and studies how brain cells, or neurons, are connected to each other and how the brain changes in both health and disease. He also teaches graduate and undergraduate student courses.
He cofounded the PATHS Scholars Program at UCSD, which helps students from underserved communities succeed in college and in STEM fields. It also provides a scholarship award to accepted scholars.
When describing his path, Dr. Patrick says: “How does a kid from Compton, CA, embark on a life journey and successful academic and career path to Full Professor in Neurobiology at UC San Diego?... The answer is simple: Access…Mentorship…and Advocacy!”
Dr. Gentry’s card was developed by former CAPTS and Hoover High students Rahmiir M. and Arianna G.
