DR. BEATA EDYTA MIERZWA
MOLECULAR BIOLOGIST & SCIENCE ARTIST
IF/THEN Series
Dr. Beata Edyta Mierzwa is a molecular biologist and an artist. She studies how the cells that make up our body divide to create new cells. Cell division is happening inside of our bodies all the time and all life depends on it.
Dr. Mierzwa uses a microscope to take pictures of the tiny world inside cells. Those pictures can be used to get data or to make art. Dr. Mierzwa creates science art and fashion to share the beauty of science with the world! You can see it at her website Beata Science Art.
Dr. Mierzwa once worried which of her two passions she would pursue - art or science. Eventually she realized she didn’t have to choose! Dr. Mierzwa says “Whatever your dream is — whether it’s science, art, or combining your passions — you don’t need to wait for the world’s permission to empower yourself and create your own path.”
Dr. Mierzwa creates unique science drawings and fashion - check them out here.
Educational Pathway: Dr. Mierzwa studied molecular biology in Austria. When she was in school, she thought she needed to choose between her passions for science and art, but now she does both!
